HISTORY OF PANDA PURSES:

I originally designed the Panda Purse (named because of the bamboo exterior) for myself. I loved the combination of bamboo and the beautiful batik fabrics because they reminded me of my favorite tropical vacations. And I saw no reason why I couldn't have that look in Illinois!

I also had a hard time finding a purse that offered easy access to the contents on the inside for things like my wallet--yet pockets for organizing coupons or small items. And--this one was essential--quick cell phone access on the outside after missing many calls searching for my phone in a cluttered purse.

Then, because I like shiny things, I wanted to add just the right amount of bling to give a little flash without being gaudy. So the purse must have a special button or gem.

After lugging too many heavy purses-- made even more heavy by the amount of things I had to have with me every day, I wanted this purse to be lightweight and well balanced. And, the handles had to be comfortable to carry--whether over the shoulder or in the hand. I love the swinginess of chain handles but don't like cold hard metal digging into my hands. So soft handles on chain were added to many of the designs. Others have complete padded fabric handles. After finally arriving at the final design, I made MY purse. I was amazed at how many compliments I received and even more amazed that women (and some men) wanted to buy one. I was talked into making a few more and they sold. Then a few more and they sold. Many sales later, I have a small (very small) business.

I don't want to be a slave to my sewing machine, nor do I want making Panda Purses to be a burden, so I don't really advertise. I sell mainly by word of mouth--and by carrying my own Panda which is my best advertisement. And I do have this website that shows which purses are available.

I love limiting sales this way. I can remember everyone who has bought a Panda--for themselves, their wives or daughters. And I like knowing that each Panda is unique. No one else in the world will have a purse like the one I carry--or the ones I sell to my wonderful customers.

I also want to thank those of you who have called or emailed me with their thanks and compliments (and reorders). It makes the Panda Purse business even more special to me.
